What is the story behind /mlp/?

I'm just a regular guy who started using 4chan a few years ago, at first I thought the board was some kind of troll, but now I'm actually interested in the history, when was the first post, how it was seen as weird, what was it like 5 years ago, all that jazz. I'm not into the fandom at all, but I'm interested in how it all got started. So please, share the history, or point me to a resource where I can read all about it
