Why don't the conversations in this sub ever move past the "wow I wonder what AGI will be like" phase?

AGI is being developed right now, but if you go to the AGI companies themselves and try to ask about what they're doing, they'll just tell you that they don't want to influence people's ideas.<br><br>I think OP is right, but I don't know what to do about it. I feel like I've done my own research, and the conclusion I've come to is that AGI is impossible without a large dataset that is relevant to the problem domain. But I don't have the expertise to pick apart the claims of any of the AGI companies. <br><br>I understand that I'm not going to be the one to develop AGI, but I want to know if any of the people doing it are operating with realistic timelines and expectations.
