Dear Mom, this is what happened when you left to get police.

I was about 8 years old at the time, it was 2am and my mom was buckling my brother and I into the car because we were driving across the country to visit my grandparents.

We live in a small town and we only have one fast food restaurant that's open 24/7. We pulled in there for a quick bite to eat before we left.

The fast food restaurant had a playground, so I wanted to go play on it for a few minutes before we left. My mom agreed and she told me to go play, but I had to be back within 5-10 minutes.

I went up on the playground and started playing. I found one of those slinky, metal tunnels that you can crawl through. I crawled halfway through it and that's when I smelled him, he smelled horrible! He smelled like BO, cigarettes, and booze.

I heard a man say "it's ok little girl, my head is hurt and I need to lay down. So I'm going to lay down behind you." I said my head is hurt to and I need to lay down in front of you so I'm going to go lay down in front of you.

He crawled through the tunnel towards me until his head was right behind mine. I immediately got scared and I knew something was wrong. When his breath hit the back of my head, I knew that I had to get out of there.

I turned around and crawled to the other end of the tunnel, jumped down from the playground, and ran to the restaurant. I saw my mom and told her what happened and she called the police.

She told me to go play with my brother in the arcade games while she went out to the car to wait for the police. I went into the arcade, I found one of those car games where you put in quarters and you get to pretend to drive a car. I climbed into the car and started to play.

About two minutes went by and then I smelled him again. I looked up and there he was, standing right in front of me grinning at me. I started to kick and scream and there was nobody in the restaurant to help me.

This man who was well over 6ft and muscular reached down and grabbed me by my arm and yanked me out of the arcade game, I weighed about 50 lbs at the time and he picked me up like I weighed 2 lbs.

I started kicking my legs and screaming at the top of my lungs, I kicked him as hard as I could and he dropped me on the floor, which hurt really bad. I got up off the floor and took off in a dead run across the restaurant towards the bathrooms, in the hopes that my mom would be in there, but she wasn't.

I ran out of the bathrooms and I seen my mom walking across the restaurant towards me, with a look of anger and fear on her face. When he saw my mom he took off out the door and into the parking lot.

My mom grabbed me and my brother and took us out to the car and put us in it. Then she ran back inside the restaurant to call the police again.

About thirty minutes went by before they showed up. The police asked my mom to take them to the man that tried to abduct me, she said she didn't see the man, but she asked me if I could point them in the direction that he went. I pointed towards the mexican restaurant.

The police told us to follow them and we did, they went to the mexican restaurant and they searched it, but he was gone. They received a report that a man walking down the highway matched the description that my mom gave them, so they went and picked him up and they brought him back to the police station.

The police came to the car and asked my mom to describe him again, she described him and they said that's the guy. They asked me if I would be able to pick him out of a line up, I said yes.

The next day, I went to the police station to do the line up and they brought five men out, I picked out the man that tried to abduct me and my mom did to. They arrested him on the spot.

I found out that the man who tried to abduct me was my dads cousin, he was a heavy drinker and he had a lot of mental problems. He was sentenced to two years in prison.

I never forgot the fear and the anger that I felt that day. I just wanted to say that I'm glad that I was able to get away from you and I hope that your prison sentence did you some good, but deep down inside I know that it didn't.
