Your Thoughts on NFTs

Personally I despise NFTs for a multitude of reasons. Firstly, I think NFTs are problematic because they are in fact contributing to climate change. Apparently digital ownership of NFTs is done by recording ownership onto the blockchain. I'm no expert but it seems like the most prevalent NFTs are crypto-related blockchain NFTs. This is concerning to me because blockchain is incredibly energy-intensive.

Secondly, NFTs are a badly designed concept that fail to function in a meaningful way. To make NFTs, you need to 'make' something (this could be art, a piece of music, anything) and purchase the rights to that piece. In my opinion, this is just "cash grab" economics, because purchasing the digital rights to something doesn't mean you own that piece of digital goods whatsoever. Evan Dumas purchased the rights to an image of Jay-Z for Bitcoin, which was originally purchased for $6,000. NFTs are often sold for tens of thousands of dollars. Purchasing an NFT is not purchasing the rights to that piece of digital goods. I do not know why NFTs sell for such high prices if Evan Dumas can legally buy copyright for $6k. Apparently digital ownership doesn't mean squat if you don't own the copyright. To me, this is an example of market manipulation.

Thirdly, why would artists focus on digital NFTs in the first place? NFTs are in theory an alternative to selling signed physical artworks. NFTs aren't sold with the physical artwork, it's just a digital image of that artwork. But why would artists focus on a digital copy of their artwork over the physical one? THIS MAKES NO SENSE!!! Is the physical piece somehow less valuable over the digital piece?

For me, the crux of the matter is why do artists focus on digital art? There is no practical value to NFTs in my opinion. Why would artists use NFTs to sell their digital art that could be sold on an open market? To me, NFTs are an unrealistic and utopian alternative to selling artworks in a sensible manner. Even if you purchase the rights to copyright, that copyright does not mean you own that piece of artwork. I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
