I just decluttered my favourite thing in the world and I feel amazing

It’s a small wooden chest that I bought years ago when I was a dumb kid and thought it would be cool to have a chest to put my “treasures” in. I don’t really have “treasures” but this favourite thing I own has become a favourite thing I own because it’s been with me for most of my life and I’ve used it to store sentimental things. Stuff like badges and keychains my friends have given me, my old passport, my very first driver’s license, dumb souvenirs or trinkets I’ve kept from my travels, stuff like that.

It’s been a bit of a guilty pleasure because I think it’s just a bit excessive and I’m not sure how I would explain it to anyone else. Anyway, I moved into a new place recently and when I was moving I started going through all the stuff I had stored in it. Stuff like dumb souvenirs or trinkets that were just garbage, things that were from when I was a kid that don’t really have any significance to me as an adult. Things that I didn’t think of as garbage before but now that I’ve thought about it I’m surprised I kept them for so long.

I decluttered a lot of stuff and it not only feels great but it’s also helped me appreciate the actual treasured things that I’ve kept. The ones that really have sentimental value to me. I’m going to be moving again in the next few months and I don’t want to have to carry that dumb wooden chest around so I’ve already put it aside to get rid of. It’s really surprising how much stuff I was holding onto for no real reason. It’s gonna feel even better once I’m rid of it.
