What if the first thing you ever learned was the spoken language and the first thing you did before reading the written information was learning to interpret the written letters with speech?

It feels like right now, everyone reads something they dont know fully aloud, which is especially true for english learners. But what if we taught them the phonetic spelling first so they could learn how to read the written words the same way a native speaker would?

Ive always had problems spelling in english and english is my primary language. But what if we taught spelling differently and more in the way the native speaker would say it?

If someone ever asked you what the right spelling for something is, you would say it aloud. “This is how you spell it”

So what if we started like that? “This is how you pronounce it, nowLets learn the written version”

This feels like something that should already be done, but maybe this is something we desperately need to implement in our language learning systems
