"Make America Great AGAIN" is a shitty slogan, because America has never been great

**Disclaimer:** I'm American, I love this country, I want it to thrive, I don't hate it. I'm just trying to make some observations here.

I think the Make America Great Again slogan is the worst. First off, it plays off people's fears. It says that things aren't good now, and that we should be afraid. It's like saying "hey, you should be terrified for your children's future, maybe I can help." It plays off of irrationality instead of rationality. Politics should be rational and well thought-out, but instead this is plugging into your base emotions to get you to support something.

Another thing about this slogan is that it says that the best days of this country are behind us. I do not subscribe to that idea. I think that we should be working towards ever better tomorrows rather than trying to make the clock tick backwards. The best days of this country are not in 1776, or 1865, or 1945, or 1985... they should be in 2025, or 2050, or 2080. This slogan makes me think that all of our progress and growth has been for nothing, and that the best that we will ever achieve as a nation has already come and gone. Honestly, that seems like a defeatist attitude. I think that we *should* make America great, but great for the first time ever, not great *again*.

Lastly, I would like you to consider this: at what time in our past was America truly great for everyone? Seriously, think about this. Is there any time in US history where everything was truly great for everyone? I can't think of a time, and I don't think that there is one. So then what is our president trying to return to? Is he trying to make America great again for whites, or blacks, or Hispanics, or Asians, or Native Americans, or men, or women, or gay people, or straight people, or Christians, or Muslims, or Jews, or Buddhists, or Agnostics, or Atheists? Which group, or groups, do you think that he is trying to cater to? After re-reading that list, I think that you would probably argue that he was trying to make *white Christians* great again, and if that's the case I see that as a *very* shitty thing to do. Honestly, if I wanted to live in a *Christian nation*, I would move to Iran, or Iraq, or Palestine. I don't want to live in a country that plays favorites, I want to live in a country where everyone is treated equally. I'm not against God, I'm not against Christianity, I *am* against having a government that caters to one religion over others.
