In 1968 Bill Milliken of the Philadelphia Inquirer wrote a 3 part series on addiction. In the final installment, he attempted to illustrate the differences in being treated as a child by your parents vs being treated as an adult. He said the following:

“Moms and dads talk about what their children are doing. There’s always a that-but-somehow idea in their stories.”

Makes sense, right? Kids are kids were kids are always not adults so we always gotta make excuses for them and have to be understanding and get to the bottom of the matter why they are doing this. Like I said that makes complete sense because guess what? Kids are kids.

So to illiterate the concept of tough love he said:

“When women talk about their husbands, there’s always an *this-is-the-kind-of-guy-he-is* idea in their stories. The husband who always gets lost on the way to the neighbors ‘cause he’s too lazy to learn how to read the street signs. The husband who always asks for ketchup in the McDonald’s drive-through window because he forgot to read the menu. The husband who is not good at taking out the garbage because he’s scatterbrained.

“’I don’t know what it is about him’ one young wife said ‘he gets confused always not knowing how to get to the liquor store. But I always tell him to call me whenever something like this happens and I’ll always be able to direct him to the liquor store.”

“Moms and dads talk about what their children are doing. There’s always a *that-but-somehow* idea in their stories.”

Thanks to feminists, we now treat women like we treat children. ?
