I thought I was a normal guy in a hostel dorm but the last morning I saw the truth

I traveled to another country in Central Europe pretty easily, with 2 bus changes along the way from my home. It took me the whole day but I arrived, I would say quite late at night in this hostel I had booked way in advance.

The hostel was a very small one to my surprise, I think pretty much 3 floors but very few people who work there, I only saw the owner and another lady who was cleaning everyday pretty much 24/7.

The hostel had 4 dorms, my one was the one with 6 people in the room and another one was with like 4, don't remember the other two. It was a bit weird to have a slightly closed bathroom where pretty much you had the shower and the toilet, but not so big of a deal in the end.

I spent the first couple of days riding the bus quite a lot to get around and visit nearby cities. Then I decided it was time to know the city so I did the following 2 days by walking. I thought to have a walk in a park, so I walked there and spent a bit of time in the park. I thought it was quite boring to be fair, very small and not many things to see, but great for pretty much just hanging out.

I woke up on my last morning, which was Sunday, pretty early and got out of my room to take some fresh air, I was not really feeling like going out walking much as I did not really like the city much. Went to the balcony where you have a nice view of the city, spent a bit of time there watching the scene but it did not really make me feel better. Then when I was going back to my room I was saying hi to people on the way, common in hostels everywhere, but the owner who was sitting on the kitchen table just looked at me and asked "where are you going?". I was a bit surprised by this, as you do not say "hi" to someone in a hostel, they just reply "hi" but the owner just replied with asking where I was going.

So I told him I was heading back to my room because I felt a bit dizzy and he told me to sit down and that kind of stuff, I really thought he was just being nice but I did not notice that weird thing he said next. I am not a native English speaker myself, which makes it even harder to notice weird words spoken by non-native speakers. He said to me "you are very handsome", now he could have said something else, like you seem very cute or something like that, I am not 100% sure but I am sure he said "handsome" and in my country that is not something you say to people you just met pretty much, and in a hostel where he is way older than me, in his 50's, and even my roommates were way way older than me as well.

I accepted the offer he made to sit down and he started talking about random stuff, he gave me a glass of water, he told me to relax, he started asking me about my trip, how my city is doing, when did I leave home, all these kind of questions. I answered all of them and he started asking some weird questions, but not weird questions for someone you have known for a long time but not for someone you have known for like pretty much 10 minutes or something.

Then he walked to the counter and told me "I think I have something for you to feel better" and he came back with a small glass of alcohol to make me feel better, I accepted and took a sip of it, he told me to finish it and I ended up finishing it quite quickly. I did not really notice much but I started to notice that I was feeling dizzier and dizzier, I had to be holding myself to the chair to not fall, I was barely able to keep my eyes open.

I told him I really had to go to my room because I was feeling kind of sick and he told me to stay where I was because he was going to lie down on the couch in case I fainted or something but I did not really know if that was a good idea because pretty much he was telling me to stay with him who I barely knew. I was too way too dizzy to barely walk to my room, so I accepted the offer and I lied down on the couch, I closed my eyes for a couple of seconds, he woke me up asking if I was feeling better, I said no, basically I was feeling way way worse than before, and he told me to lie down again and I fell asleep.

The next thing I remember is being in my bed, I was feeling terrible and way worse than when I laid down in the couch. I went to look at my phone and I could barely see anything on the screen and I could not really read anything, way too much blurry. I barely managed to get to the kitchen to get some water, and when I came back I saw one of my roommates and I asked her if she had seen me walking around. She told me that no, but that another roommate had told her that she saw me walking around way too much and knocking myself on the walls and the furniture.

I called my friends back home to pretty much tell them that I was feeling very bad and I feared something had happened while I was asleep. My friends were very worried and told me that I should go to the police station to file a report. They told me I should go straight to the ER. I told the owner about it and he started to laugh saying he is a healthcare professional and he could take me there way faster than the ambulance could arrive, I know, I know, way too much weird but I was barely able to walk.

He took me to the ER and when we were waiting for my turn he was telling me about random things, who was who in the hospital, who was this doctor, how he met this other one. Then the doctor took me to examine me and when I pretty much explained what happened to me the doctor told me way too many things in my opinion but he did not really show any sign of something being wrong, I would say that by this moment I was starting to feel way way better.

The doctor started asking questions like what did the owner give me to drink, I told him water pretty much, he asked if I drank way too much water, I told him I only had a little glass. Then the doctor asked if I drank alcohol, I told him he gave me a small glass of a liquor to make me feel better, the doctor told me to never drink anything pretty much that is given from people I don't know, even water, and that he was going to run some tests to see what was in the liquor I drank.

I spent the whole day there pretty much, they hooked me to an IV drip, gave me some medicine to feel better and a day later I was pretty much fine, not even a headache but it was very hard to sleep. The weird part is pretty much that they did not really tell me what was in the liquor, which was my whole concern. I asked way too many times but they just told me that it was the liquor they gave me, but I asked many many times what was in the liquor and they did not really want to tell me.

I went back to the hostel, I had to stay there way more than planned because I had to wait for my bus back to my city. At night I asked the other pretty much guests in the hostel to see if something like that had happened to them but none of them had experienced the same as me. I felt way too weird because those guests had been staying there for way more time than me, pretty much a week or something but none of them had experienced the same.

I asked the owner pretty much how many people were staying in the hostel and he told me there were 3 people in my room, 1 in another, 2 in another and 2 in the other. He told me there were 8 people right now in the hostel. I was in my room, there were way more people than 3, in another room there were 4 people, not 2. I looked for the owner to tell him something was wrong and he was not there, so I went back to look for him and when I found him the numbers were correct.

I asked one of my roommates how many people were in our room and she told me there were 6 people but only 5 of us were present in that moment, and I was one of them. I went back to my bed and there were 6 people, I do not really know what was going on, I felt like my time in the hostel was something way too weird, I do not really know what to think about it.

I would like you to tell me if something like this has happened to you and what you think it was.
