The people saying philosophy is useless are themselves philosophers.

I just see it all the time. Usually it's engineering majors complaining about taking a philosophy class that teaches them how to write formal argumentative essays. Usually they complain by saying "philosophy is useless, and they don't want to do this useless work". The problem is that they are being philosophers by saying that. By saying philosophy is useless, they are creating an argument for why philosophy is useless. An argument is philosophy, therefore what they are doing is being philosophers.

It makes no sense to see engineering or science majors berating philosophy for being useless and then say "I'm doing this argument because I want to prove philosophy is useless". By doing this you are being a philosopher, and you are making yourself look extremely stupid.
