I'm sure you have heard of stories of people going missing and being killed. There's the story of Gabby Petito. It goes like this: a true crime story happens, and it goes on the news. Then it goes on social media. And the headline is always like "this woman disappeared in random location X and then she was murdered." <br><br>The world is not a random place. If you know your surroundings, you will be perfectly safe and nothing bad will happen to you. If you don't know your surroundings, then it is not random that you are at danger. <br><br>There is true crime and missing persons cases that happen locally. Meaning they happen in your neighborhood. And they happen to local people. But they don't go viral. <br><br>For example, I live in Chicago. There is a large amount of missing persons cases here, upwards of 20,000 per year, true crime and and missing persons cases. My dad lives in a suburb of Chicago, a true crime happened and a woman who was in her early 20s was walking down the street and she was murdered with a baseball bat. <br><br>When I was in college a true crime happened and a college-aged woman disappeared while walking from the parking lot to her apartment. They never found her body. <br><br>And I'm sure that's the case in other cities as well. <br><br>I'm sure that there are true crime and missing persons cases in your neighborhood and you heard about them on the news, and nobody ever found the body. But I know that it's not random that you should not leave your drink unattended at a bar. I have never been to Chicago. Why would you be in a big city and walk alone at night and be surprised when you get mugged or attacked or killed?
