I was an l.p specialist at a Walmart for 10 years. I was the rare lp that actually cared about the job. I arrested hundreds, probably thousands of shoplifters. I caught a ton of organized retail crime and was considered one of Walmart's best at the time. I started right at the very beginning of Walmart's transition to the NAR program back in 2015 and was one of the last ones to transition over in 2019. Ask me anything you want. I'll tell you how it really is, the good and the bad.

EDIT: I've never been a big fan of talking about the specifics of what was stolen, or the methods of individual people because that always gives me a bit of a conflict of interest. Even though I don't do this job anymore, I still have to worry about discrediting the cases that I generated.

I WILL say that I personally caught well over 100 people in connection with ORC, and that's probably on the conservative side because I don't really keep count. For context, I probably did over 2,000 shoplifting stops during my career so it's not like ORC was the overwhelming majority or anything. I caught about 2-3 people a month, sometimes more, sometimes less, who were identifying their stolen goods to online markets. Some of them were resellers, some of them were in it for the money, some of them did it just for the thrill. I caught a lot of people who were reselling on the streets, at the flea market, and even some who were full on scalpers. I caught a couple of people who were stealing to order and a couple people who were stealing for a payout from their boss.

I personally arrested well over 200 people. I lost track at some point so I don't have an exact number. I would say that I averaged about 1.5 arrests per week. I had several cases where I was able to get convictions for felony shoplifting, but only in cases where the suspects had multiple prior convictions or where the dollar amount was significantly high. In most of the felony cases, the prosecutor would reduce the charge to a misdemeanor and the suspect would get probation. This was usually the case in cases where the suspect had no prior record, or had no prior convictions for larceny related offenses.

As far as reoccurring offenders go, Walmart used to have something called the BOP program. To be placed on the BOP list, a subject had to be arrested for shoplifting at least three times, or have been assessed a civil demand on three separate occasions, or a combination of both. This was one of the biggest waste of time and an exercise in futility that I've ever seen in my life. I would say that I probably did over 2,000 shoplifting stops in my career, and only a small minority of those suspects ever ended up on that list. Once you were on that list, you were banned from all Walmart stores for life. The problem with that was that Walmart had no way of enforcing that ban, so it was pretty much useless. If you got caught on the property, you received a trespassing notice and that was it. The ban really didn't mean much of anything to someone who was going to steal anyway. I caught tons of people who were already on that list. Once the NAR program rolled out, that list basically went away. I would say I only caught about five people after the NAR roll out who were on the BOP list.

I only dealt with one murder at a Walmart that I worked at and no suicides. I saw 3 suicide attempts, so those were obviously not part one suicides. I probably dealt with well over 100 weapons offenses. I saw and dealt with thousands of disturbances, mostly verbal, some physical. I had several calls where someone had laced the food product with drugs or poison. I caught two people who had placed mouse traps in the product. One of the guys was a former employee and he was trying to get the store shut down because he thought we were the reason he was homeless. I caught one guy who was placing thumb tacks in the parking lot. I caught another guy who was trying to tamper with the water cooler machine to presumably poison the water.

I saw thousands and thousands of shoplifting cases over the years. I reviewed the surveillance video for almost every case. I probably reviewed hundreds of hours of surveillance video, if not thousands. Out of all of those cases, I only caught two instances where a customer was wrongly accused. In both cases, it was because the Greeter was too lazy to sit at his post at the entrance and do his job.

Thankfully, I only had to deal with dead bodies a couple of times. One was a car accident in the parking lot and the other was an overdose.

It was not uncommon to catch employees stealing on a weekly basis. I probably caught at least 50 employees who were stealing over the course of my career. The vast majority of them were in connection with ORC.

I was only disarmed once. I had a very lengthy chase with a shoplifter and probably wasn't paying attention to the environment. I probably should have tazed the guy earlier but chose not to. He grabbed my tazer, but he didn't know how to use it. He pointed it at me and tried to taze me. All the tazer does is make that little clicking noise that you hear when you whip it out and put your finger on the switch. He tried multiple times to get it to fire but didn't know that you have to have your finger on the switch for it to fire. I saw what was happening and was able to easily take it away from him.

I was threatened hundreds of times. I was attacked dozens of times. I wasn't often burned by spit or piss or anything like that but I know a lot of other LP people that it happened to. I was bitten twice and received injuries bad enough to require stitches multiple times. I probably received close to 100 injuries bad enough to require a documented incident report. I was lucky to not get anything too serious aside from a couple of broken bones. A lot of LP people that I knew experienced much much worse injuries than that. I was tazed during my training and I also tazed myself in the leg by accident. I was sprayed probably close to 100 times for training and accidentally. I was sprayed twice by a subject. I was 5 foot 6 and 155 pounds for most of my career. Size doesn't matter. If you want to attack me, you're probably going to win the initial confrontation. But you're still going to jail and I'm going to be the one who gets the satisfaction of knowing that I sent another piece of shit to jail.

If you have any questions or need further clarification on anything that I've said, just let me know and I'll do my best to help.

EDIT: THANK GOD that this isn't my real chambers account.

EDIT TWO: I understand that the questions aren't getting answered fast enough. I'm one guy answering questions on my lunch break. I'll get to them as fast as I can, but it's not like there's a whole team of former LP people answering questions here.

EDIT THREE: I didn't know that this sub even existed until this morning. I posted on r/rosc. This is new to me and I'm still learning the rules.

EDIT FOUR: I'm not blocking anyone. If you think you're getting blocked or shadowbanned, you probably broke a rule that you didn't even know existed. Please see edit three.

EDIT FIVE: I don't care if you stole. It's not up to me to judge you or to punish you for what you've done. Everyone makes mistakes. If you want advice on how not to get caught, that's a different story. I'll tell you right from the beginning that I have no sympathy for anyone who steals. Stealing is a choice. If you choose to steal, you have no one to blame but yourself when you get caught.

EDIT SIX: I'm still somewhat active as a reserve police officer, I still don't recommend that you attack LP or anyone else just for doing their job. That will get you hurt or killed. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

EDIT SEVEN: I think I'm going to stop answering questions tonight. I've literally been answering questions non-stop since lunch. I probably won't be back on until tomorrow afternoon, and I'll keep answering questions as long as people have something to ask. Thanks for showing interest and thanks for the awards.
