Subreddit didn't allow my post. Mod told me to stop self-promoting and that my free speech is protected so I'm posting it here instead.

I wrote a thread last month about the lack of political discourse on the internet today and how it is one of the biggest problems we have as a society. I had a couple of thousand upvotes on it, but no comments or awards. Today I joined this sub to post the same thread, and was immediately banned for self-promoting. I wrote to the mods to explain that I was doing it because that thread didn't get any feedback, but they told me that they stand by their decision. They said that free speech is protected and that I shouldn't be scared to speak my mind, but they are the ones preventing me from speaking my mind! I am only speaking my mind on this dumb website because I am trying to understand what's wrong with our society, and I think that understanding is crucial to making the world a better place.

So I'm going to write my thread here instead since they won't let me post it there. Here it is:

--

Sometimes I stop and think about my political opinions and realize that they are not as well thought out as I want them to be. I didn't do well in school and my critical thinking skills are lacking, but what's worse is that I'm completely unable to speak with people who have different political opinions than my own. I don't think that I can change the world on my own. I don't think that anyone can. And I'm not sure how much my political opinions matter. But I want to be able to choose what I believe in, rather than choosing what I believe in based on my feelings.

That's why I started this thread, because I want to be able to have a discussion with people who disagree with me politically. I feel like my perspective would be greatly enhanced by what other people can bring to the table.

I'm going to unabashedly state some of the things that I believe in, and then listen to what others have to say. If you do feel like you have something to say but don't want to post it on Chambers, you can send me a private message. I will do my best to give you my honest opinion and to be critical of my own thoughts.

Small government is best

Less people know what’s best for society than you would think

Another term for “the common good” is “the greater evil”

Policing the internet is a great way to foster a legal black market for illegal products and to open the door to a dystopian future

The internet should be unabashedly free

Money makes us happy and well off and that is a good thing

Facebook is the first company that I am aware of which is willing to be unscrupulous to get ahead

If we didn’t allow companies to become so large, we wouldn’t have to deal with companies like Facebook

Money is a social contract.
