I am a 23 year old Marine and I do not view our right to bear arms as a God given right. I believe our country is heading in the wrong direction with the path we are on regarding our right to bear arms.

Ok, let me get some things clear before I begin. I am a 23 year old, Marine Corps veteran who served for four years. I love to own guns, and I think the second amendment is the greatest amendment out of all of them in our bill of rights. I also view our country in the state it is currently in as a very divided nation that has a lot to fix before we can truly call ourselves the greatest country on earth. With that being said, I want to make it clear that I am not a democrat nor do I believe guns should be banned. Also, please note that no politician is mentioned in this post.

Now that the disclaimers are out of the way, here is what I have to say.

I do not view the right to bear arms as a God given right. I mean think about it..... Have you ever seen a deer, bear, or wolf walking around with a gun strapped to its hip? Our right to bear arms is obviously a myth and a joke. If anything, animals should be the ones who have the right to bear arms and not us, humans. Furthermore, I do not believe our countries founding fathers ever would have envisioned the day where someone could buy an assault rifle that is just as powerful as what is being carried by our nations trained veterans, active duty, police officers, and first responders. I do not think our founding fathers would have envisioned a day where we are buying semi automatic shotguns that can fire 10-15 rounds a clip. They have been dead for hundreds of years and would never have envisioned for our nation to get to this point. I believe they would think we are crazy for fighting so much to not regulate guns. I am not saying that we should ban all semi automatic guns and rifles, but there is no reason why any civilian should be allowed to buy an assault rifle.

I have been around guns my whole life and I love to shoot. Love it. But the idea that because I am a US citizen that I am automatically entitled to a gun is bullshit. There is no reason for someone with a history of crime, mental illness, or other negative things in their life to have a gun. But in this country, these are the people who are buying the guns and are getting the wrong idea that our right to bear arms is a God given right. That we have the right to bear arms regardless of how destructive and untrustworthy they are. If anything, people like this should not have the right to bear arms at all. The founding fathers were not the type of people who would agree with people who are so destructive with their lives and to others walking around with a dangerous firearm.

Now you may be asking why do you care so much about this? Well, I care because I am tired of the mass shootings that are happening because the wrong people are allowed to buy guns. I am tired of innocent people not being able to go to school, church, Walmart, or to their favorite restaurant because they fear their lives might be cut short due to a mass shooting. I am tired of our nation being fearful every time we leave our house to go to our favorite places or events. I am tired of our country being in such a divided state and it's killing me to see how much we are in shambles. This is not how I envisioned the country I served for to be like. If anything, I would think the country I served for would be in much better shape than this.

I have zero trust in our media and government at the moment. I trust in our nations police officers, EMT, doctors, first responders, and nurses to do their jobs to the best of their ability. That's it. I also trust in our nations active duty to protect our country from other threats outside of our nation. They are the true heroes that deserve our respect. Everyone else in our system can fuck off. I hope to see our country get better in the future, but we have a long road to recovery ahead of us.
