CMV: Religion should be banned

I think religion should be banned. I sincerely believe that it is the most destructive, divisive and downright evil man-made concept in human history. Religion has been the direct or indirect cause of countless wars, crusades, inquisitions, witch hunts, honor killings, genital mutilations and suicide bombings throughout human history and even to this day. It has been the bane of science and critical thinking, inhibiting human progress for centuries by suppressing free thinkers and scientists, who have been imprisoned, tortured and murdered just for speaking out against some religious dogma. Christianity is responsible for the burning of the Library of Alexandria. Christianity is responsible for the persecution of scientists like Galileo and Bruno, with the latter being burned at the stake. Islam is holding back the Middle-East, inhibiting their development and causing them to lag behind in science, technology and women's rights, while simultaneously being the root cause of most of the terrorism in the world, causing death and destruction in its wake. In India, Hinduism is responsible for social stratification and the caste system, where "untouchables" are treated like animals and the killing of cows is punished by death. In Israel, Judaism has caused the brutal subjugation of the Palestinian people, who have been systemically murdered, tortured, expelled and stripped of their rights by the Israeli government, who claim god's promise as justification for their occupation. In Myanmar, Buddhism played a big part in inspiring the genocide of the Rohingya Muslims, who were subjected to brutal slaying and eventual expulsion by the Myanmarese military. Throughout history and to this day, Religion is, was and shall forever be a stain on human dignity and a thorn in the side of human progress. <br> <br>Now if you disagree, then please convince me otherwise, as I am open to changing my view. <br> <br>EDIT: I sincerely appreciate all the comments I've been getting so far, however if you're just gonna comment some verse from the Bible or the Quran, then I'm afraid we can't have a discussion. I'd prefer it if you could talk in your own words rather than spewing some passage from some religious scripture. Thank you.
