Unpopular opinions about writing (in no particular order):
- Grammar, spelling, and punctuation are important. You can't just be completely careless about it. I would rather read the most basic, cliche story with proper grammar and spelling than a story with an interesting plot and unique take on the genre.
- One of the worst things to happen to writing was fanfiction. If you want to write a story with the characters from some other work of fiction in it, MAKE IT ORIGINAL. Otherwise you're not actually contributing to the writing and artistic communities.
- If you can't write a story that doesn't involve graphic sexual or violent content, then not only are you a bad writer, but you also have some psychological issues you need to work out. If you can't write a story without rape, murder, gore, or other mature topics, then your story is unoriginal and you need to grow the fuck up and stop being so obsessed with this kind of content.
- Autistic, bipolar, and otherwise neurodivergent people are not "special snowflakes" just because of their brain chemistry. Having a mental illness or disability does not make you special, nor does it make you a bad person. Just because a character is autistic or bipolar or otherwise neurodivergent does not make them a special snowflake and it does not make you a good writer to include neurodivergent characters in your story, and these kind of characters are NOT "representation" by virtue of being in a story. You are not a good person for "raising awareness" of mental health. If you write a story with autistic, bipolar, or otherwise neurodivergent characters in it, you had better write them correctly and not make it about their condition. Otherwise you're a poser who's just trying to get sympathy or attention, and you're a bad writer.

Edit: Grammar and spelling are important because good writing is effective communication of ideas and stories. If you misspell things and use incorrect grammar, you're not getting your story across as well as you could be. You're not a special snowflake who is above the "rules" of writing, nor should you be. The rules of grammar and spelling exist for a reason. And if you think you're above them, then you're being a childish dumbshit who needs to grow the fuck up.
