The basic idea is that, we are transmitting radio signals into space for ~ 100 years. Ignoring the fact that no civilization prior to us has had the technology to communicate by radio, and that any civilization that has come after us will have some alternative that we can't understand. Any star governed by intelligent life in the galaxy would have to be in the 100 light year cone, or "cone of time" reaching out from earth to have any possible chance of hearing our "hello". This also assumes that they are listening to our broadcasts.

There are approximately 100 - 400 billion stars in the galaxy, governed by 0 - 100 billion planets. Let's assume that 10% of those have intelligent life. That's 1 - 10 billion planets governed by intelligent life. That 1-10 billion planets are governed in a 1:100 - 1:100,000,000,000 ratio of hearing our broadcasts.

If there is intelligent life out there, it is impossible that we will ever find it, given that we have only been broadcasting for 100 years, and any planet governed by intelligent life outside of that timeframe will never know we exist, and we will never know they exist.

This leads to the conclusion that there is no intelligent life in the universe, and we are alone.
