I know this is going to be a controversial take, but I think the Democratic primary should be hostile in the sense that corporate Democrats and progressive Democrats should argue over the future of the party.

I don't think there should be a Bernie vs. Warren primary. I think Bernie and Warren should form an alliance and choose one to run for President while the other runs for VP. The person who runs for VP should be the more progressive out of the two, and the person who runs for President should be the more electable of the two.

I think the reason the Democratic party doesn't go for more progressive candidates in the general election is because they have a tendency to choose the milquetoast "centrist" candidate (Obama, Clinton, Biden) because it is safer than going all in on a progressive candidate. The reason this is, is because the "centrist" candidate is more electable than the progressive one.

However, if the progressive candidate (who would be the VP) is more popular than the centrist candidate (who is the President), the party has to go with the progressive candidate. This would make the progressive candidate more electable than the centrist.
