I don't feel right about shoplifting anymore...

the stores where I live have about a dozen security cameras pointed in every direction. they also have a policy of charging the most they can charge you legally for shoplifting which is about 500 dollars, so if you get caught you can get a criminal record, and have to pay about 500 dollars. idk if it's worth it now. i know about people that have gotten caught and are now in debt, can't leave the area without a travel permit, have to walk through metal detectors every time they go into court, have to wear a GPS tracker and are banned from the store forever. idk if it's worth it now and i feel like the stores have taken a step in smarter methods of operation. i know someone who stole food from there and got charged 4500 dollars by the courts and are still in court with fines, so i don't wanna risk that now. idk if i'm just being paranoid or what.
