My job is being automated, but I'm a software engineer.

I saw a whole thread of people from all industries complaining about how they are being automated, and it made me laugh. "Oh no! My job as a janitor is being replaced by a robot that cleans my building all day!"

I'm a software engineer. I worked for a year and a half at a small company, made a bunch of software, and it automated my job. It was so nice when I got to stop coding, and seeing all of our customers and employees being happy with the software we made. I could finally go on some nice long walks.

Just kidding! I was immediately reassigned to a different project, and the weeks I spent on the last project are all for nothing, because they will probably never use it. They didn't want or expect my last project to replace my job. They wanted me to make it, and then use it.

I guess what I'm getting at is that if your job is being automated, it might be a sucky situation for you, but at least you have a chance to go find new work. There is no soul in the world who hates automation more than me, a software engineer who is FORCED to automate everything he does. I don't have time to do that, and it is incredibly hard.
