Hey,

I've been trying to learn Spanish for about 10 months now and stopped 7 months ago, with a progress of 2% on Duolingo. Spanish is an important language in my field, so I decided I would get back into it.

I was frustrated with language learning in general, and with all the theories and methods that I did not understand, even more. I am a simple person with simple needs: I want to be able to communicate with others. I did not care for grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and all the other nuances of language learning. I wanted to be able to communicate, in the simplest way possible.

When I got back into it, I started with Duolingo. I did the two lessons a day, and I was happy with my progress. I was at 10% in 4 days. Then I started to watch videos, Ted Talks, etc, with subtitles in Spanish. I found it too hard, and the lack of concentration, on the screen, was too much for my eyes.

I decided to get myself a tutor, so I could ask the questions I had, and talk to someone. I was at 15% at the time. It was great, I could ask all the questions I had, and improve my speaking skills.

I was at 25% when I started to watch Spanish TV shows. I could understand a little bit, and I was satisfied. It was good entertainment, and I could learn at the same time. I was at 40% when I started to be more comfortable talking in Spanish. I stopped taking an hour a day of classes, and I started taking 30 minutes, two times a day.

I'm now at 50%, and I can talk comfortably in Spanish, although I make mistakes. I can also watch TV shows and understand most of it, without any subtitles. I feel comfortable with myself, even though it is not perfect. I am happy with the progress I made in the last 30 days, and I feel confident that I will keep improving.

Not a native English speaker, so please forgive the mistakes!

TL;DR I was at 2% in Duolingo and I'm now at 50%! I did it with 2 lessons a day, watching TV shows, Ted Talks, and classes with a tutor. I'm not fluent, but I can communicate with native speakers!
