3 years ago my dog had an unplanned litter of 11 puppies, we decided to keep two of the puppies and make them her breeding dogs since they were half siblings and both carried the gene that made our dog rare and we named them Alice and Jeremy.

A few months later we got a female lab and bred her to my friend’s dog, they had a litter of 11 puppies and I kept three, two females and one male.

So now I have 3 breeding females (Violet, Alice and Bella) and 2 breeding males (Jeremy and Clifford)

But yesterday I received a call from a buyer of one of Violet’s puppies and said that the puppy she got was starting to show signs of hip dysplasia and she wanted to know if we would replace the dog or give her a refund, we did replace the dog and she said that she would be taking legal action against us since this is the second puppy we had sold that developed a genetic issue.

Now I’m starting to question if I should stop breeding, we’ve had a few complaints but not this many since we are a small scale breeder.

So I’m in need of advice, should I stop or continue breeding?

I am planning on having my dogs tested but the tests are very expensive since we have 7 dogs.
