Why would anyone choose to live in the USA?

Hi everyone, I'm a young software developer from Eastern Europe, where in the past few months I've been talking to about half a dozen Norte American company developer positions (I would much rather move in the US, than to work for a US company). I'm concentrating on these since they offer higher salaries and they would let me live and work in an English speaking country (which I'm very eager to do, as English is my second language, and I would love to see the States while living there). I've been talking to several companies mainly from California, Texas or New York, and they have all been very eager to do the remote to relocate path. But in one of the latest calls, when we were talking about the compensation and stuff, they mentioned that I would need to be in the office one day a week. My question was that if I would relocate to the States, why in gods name would I want to live anywhere near the city, when I can live in a much bigger house in a "forest" 2 hours away from the office and still be able to commute? And they told me that they wouldn't understand why, "it's much better in the city", "it's much easier to be close to the office, when you're only coming one day a week". I was like, what the hell? You are working in a field (tech) that lets you work from anywhere, you can choose to live anywhere, you have a huge country to pick from, and you still choose to live in the city, near your work? Why? That makes no sense to me, no sense at all. I would much much rather live in a nice big house, in the middle of nowhere and drive for 2 hours than live in a tiny apartment.

What makes the big cities in the US so attractive? I know that, for example, New York is big on tourists and there is always something to see and do, but I would still be working there, I can't just "live my best life" all the time, I have a job to do after all.
