I live in a small town in Queensland, Australia. There’s not a whole lot of people and a lot of the time, everyone knows everyone. My town is one of those small towns where kids are never too far away.

I never gave it too much thought really, I mean, it’s always been like this. We’ve always been used to hearing kids and their noises and what not.

However, over the last decade or so, the amount of kids in our town have decreased. We still get the odd couple with their kids walking around, but it’s a lot less than it used to be.

One night, about 3 months ago, I received a phone call. Nothing unusual at first, I mean, I get calls from all sorts of people, before and after work.

It was around 9pm that I received the call and I was sitting in my room reading a book. I was expecting a call from a friend, as we were going to go out to a bar the next night. So, I can’t really describe the amount of confusion and shock that took over my body when I answered the call. There was nobody on the other side, just the sound of kids laughing and playing.

After that night, I started to receive a lot of calls with nobody on the other side. It was always kids laughing and playing in the background, and I couldn’t figure out who it was or how they were getting my number. I tried calling them back, but the calls always ended up being dead or fake numbers.

One night, I was sitting in the lounge watching TV when one of the calls came through. I had just received one that morning, so I didn’t expect to get another that night. I immediately declined the call and noticed that the sound of kids playing and laughing had stopped.

I turned my head towards the TV, expecting to see the show I was watching come back on. But what I saw that night was something that I can never forget, and though it’s been 3 months, it’s burned into my brain and stays there everyday.

On the screen, we’re words. “We’re coming for you”. It was loud, and red, and lit up the whole room. I immediately jumped back and started to panic. I don’t remember calling the police, but apparently I did, because they ended up turning up at my house.

For the past 3 months, I have been terrified. I haven’t been sleeping properly and I don’t like to answer calls from people I don’t know.

I thought it had all blown over and that whoever was doing it had grown tired or bored. However, I received another call yesterday morning. Like all the other calls, there was nobody on the other side, but this time there was no sound of kids.

I decided to call the number back, and the person that picked up was not who I was expecting. Like thousands of miles away not expecting. It was a news anchor from a local news network in Florida.

She first asked me “where are you?”, and honestly, I don’t know how they knew my voice, because I have never spoken to this person or even watched their channel. I decided to tell her where I lived, though it’s not a big deal as my town is literally a dot on the map.

She then quickly told me that she would be in touch soon and hung up the phone. I was completely and utterly confused. I mean, what could a news anchor from thousands of miles away in Florida have to do with me?

I waited patiently, and I was even starting to think that maybe she was too busy to call me. It had been around 5 or 6 hours since I received the call, and I was sitting in my room when I got the call.

It was a withheld number, so I immediately knew who it was. I answered the call, and before I could even say hello, she spoke.

“Jack Bentson. We know where you are”.

I started to panic a little bit, and I asked her “how do you even know my name?”. She replied with “we will see you soon”.

I asked her “who is this” and again she replied with “we will see you soon”.

I started to panic really bad, and I tried to ask for more information but she just kept saying the same thing.

I finally asked her “what do you want with me?”. She paused before answering “we have been watching you for a while now, Mr Bentson. You seem like a good man, but we really need your help on something. We will contact you again tomorrow”.

I asked her “what is it that you need my help for”.

She replied with “we will tell you tomorrow, goodbye”.

Now, I’ve been sitting in my room all day today, just waiting for someone to contact me. I don’t know who these people are or what they want, but I know that they need my help for something.

I really don’t want to help these people, but I’m also really curious. What do they need my help for?

I’m writing this right now, because I’m just waiting for them to contact me. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I really hope I don’t have to do anything I regret.

I’m so anxious about this and I’m hoping I will be okay. I’ll update you guys if anything happens.
