Using a blockchain, anyone can pay any church and that money is locked down for the church to use. The church can only use it for the following three scenarios.

1. Charity

2. Immediate expenses (paying the electricity bill, paying the pastor, paying a plumber to fix a pipe, etc)

3. Adding it to the treasury

The treasury is also on the blockchain and anyone can see how much money is in the treasury at any time. Once money is put into the treasury, it is locked. There is a waiting period that is set (like 30 days) before it can be removed from the treasury. During that time, if one church decides to steal all the money, it can be removed from the blockchain and everyone can switch to the blockchain fork that never had that money removed. It’s like kicking a church off the network.

The only reason to remove money from the treasury is for scenario 1 or 2. If someone removes money from the treasury for reason 1 or 2, it must be removed from the blockchain state as well. If it is not removed, it can be disputed and the church can be kicked off the blockchain.

So what would happen is everyone would have to update their copy of the blockchain to a new fork that removes the money from the churches account as well.

Anyone can see the state of the blockchain at any time. They can also see any pending transactions into or out of a church. There are only two scenarios for money to come out of a church: immediate expenses and removing it from the treasury. Anyone can see the state of a churches treasury and whether or not there are any pending transactions from the treasury.

So if you, or other church members, find out that money is being removed from the treasury for reason 1 or 2 and the money removed from the treasury is not being removed from the blockchain state, you can dispute it and get the church kicked off the blockchain. Everyone can switch to a blockchain fork where the money was never removed from the church’s treasury and the church can’t get any more money from anyone.

So if they go and remove the money from the treasury, and church attendees get on to church attendees blockchain and get that church kicked off of the global blockchain, members of that church can just switch to a fork that the church is still on. But they can’t get any more money from anyone else.

So what you’d end up with is the global blockchain that only contains churches that are popular enough for their church attendees to pressure them to always act properly. There would be a fork for each church that wants to scam their church members.

Anyway. I guess it would need a church to sponsor it to get started. It wouldn’t be a popular app. Just a niche thing for church members to check up on their churches.

Alternatively, you could just create a blockchain for churches and let local governments use it to track the money that churches make. I’m sure the IRS would love that.
