A quick reflection upon returning from Israel

So I returned from Israel two nights ago after an incredible three-week journey. Although I've been back in America for a very short time, I can't help but compare the two nations.

The first thing I noticed after returning home was the cleanliness of Israeli cities. The cities are spotless. I walked around Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Jerusalem Forest, and others without seeing any garbage on the streets. That is a huge difference between Israel and America. I went for a run this morning in an area nearby my house and saw trash scattered across the sidewalk. It was horrible. America, please clean up. I know we can do it because Israel is doing it.

The second thing I noticed is that the Israelis are very respectful. I walked down the street and I was often greeted with a friendly "hello" or "how are you." When I said "I'm good, thank you" or "I'm fine, thank you", they just responded by saying "goodbye" and continued on their way. I didn't experience that anywhere in the United States. People walked past me today without saying a word. That was not my experience at all in Israel. Israelis are good people.

The third thing I noticed, which was the saddest, was the amount of people who don't work. In Israel, you would see people of all ages working: the young, the old, and those in between. Everyone works hard in Israel. In America, not so much. I am not asking for much when all I want is for Americans to have an adequate work ethic. It does not have to be like Israel where everyone works, but just show up to work. I don't see that in America today.

The last thing I noticed was the food. I am not a big eater, but the food in Israel blew me away. Not only was the food cheap, but it was good. I remember getting a delicious cappuccino and muffin at a coffee shop in Jerusalem for under $5. In America, that would have been $8 or more. Good grief, the food. I miss it so much.

I am not a big fan of President Biden's America, but Israel is something else. It is an incredible country, a true gem in the Middle East. I would do anything to help Israel and the Israelis. I can't wait to return someday.
