About five years ago, I was 19 and in my second year of college. Looking back, I made a lot of stupid decisions.

One of my friends, “Gina,” convinced me to go to a fraternity party with her. Before we went, I made it very clear to her that I didn’t want to get drunk. I was still a minor at the time (it was legal to drink at 19 where I lived), and I had just been sober for a year.

Gina and I went to the party, where she promptly proceeded to get blackout drunk. She left with some guy, and I never saw her again that night.

I wasn’t very familiar with the city, and it was very cold out, so I decided to stay at the frat house and wait for Gina to come back. I sat and talked with a few of the pledges for a while, and eventually I got tired and decided to take a nap on the couch while I waited for Gina. The pledges told me that was fine and they would wake me up if she came back.

I think I was asleep for at most 30 minutes when I was woken up. I groggily opened my eyes, and there standing above me was a senior from the frat house. I didn’t know him at the time, but he had red hair that stood out in the sea of people at the party.

At first he was just talking to me, and I figured he was trying to hit on me or something, but then he started saying things that made me feel uncomfortable. He was making sexual remarks and he kept trying to convince me to go upstairs with him. I tried politely blowing him off, but he just wouldn’t take no for an answer.

Finally I said, “I’m waiting for my friend to come back. I can’t leave until then.” I hoped that if I said I was waiting for a friend he would get bored and leave me alone.

I wish I never said that.

As soon as I said I was waiting for a friend, his whole demeanor changed. He became more hostile and his eyes seemed darker. He started saying things like “She won’t be back for a while. We can just go in one of the rooms up there and come back when she gets back.” And “It will only take a little while. You don’t need to feel afraid of me.”

He stood up and reached down and grabbed my arm. I tried to pull my arm away from him, but he held it in a vice grip.

I was starting to feel very scared and I had no way to contact Gina. My phone had died when I was talking to the pledges, and they had all left the common room where I was. It was just me and this guy, and he was starting to drag me towards the stairs.

That’s when the hero came in.

I didn’t see him at first. All I remember is this guy with red hair who was holding my arm got a strange look on his face and then fell backwards. I stumbled backwards a few feet and fell onto the floor.

When I stumbled backwards, I saw him. He was a few feet away from me and he was standing over the guy who had grabbed my arm. The guy was out cold on the floor, and this hero was standing over him with the most pissed off expression on his face.

He slowly turned towards me and said, “Are you ok?” His voice was deep, and he looked at me with this piercing stare. He was tall and had short dark hair. He was very muscular, and he looked like he lifted weights a lot. He had the most beautiful blue eyes that sparkled in the light.

I was too stunned to move or answer. I just kind of shook my head a little and stared at him.

He walked over to me and reached down and gently picked me up. He looked me in the eyes and asked again, “Are you ok?”

I still couldn’t answer. I just shook my head a little and kept staring at him.

I don’t know why I didn’t run away or call the cops. I probably should have. All I remember is that I felt safe when he was holding me. When he was by me, I felt safe.

He smiled and said, “You don’t have to be afraid. I won’t hurt you.”

I don’t know how he knew I was afraid, but the blue of his eyes told me he was telling the truth. I still couldn’t answer him, but I think I kind of nodded.

He helped me up and held me by the waist as he walked me out of the house. He asked me what my friend’s name was, and I was able to tell him that it was Gina.

I don’t know how he knew so many things, but I assume he must have been in the house for a little while. He knew all kinds of things. He knew that Gina was at another party a few streets over. He knew the guy with the red hair’s name was Chest. He knew me and Gina didn’t drive, and that we took a cab there.

I kind of came to my senses when we were walking. The cold weather probably helped me wake up a little. By the time he hailed a cab for me, I was able to talk. We talked for a few minutes while we waited for the cab, and I found out that his name was Jack.

Once the cab came, he helped me in and shut the door. As I pulled away from the curb, I looked back and saw him standing in the snow. I felt this pang in my heart as I realized that I would never see him again.

That was it. I got in the cab, and I never saw or heard from him again.

Gina came back the next morning, and she looked like a zombie. I spent the whole day worrying about Jack instead of being angry at Gina. It may make me a stupid girl, but I couldn’t help how I felt.

If you’re Jack, please see this. I live in New Haven, CT now. My name is Kat. If you see this and you’reJack, I’d love it if you got in contact with me.

And if you’re Chest and you see this, I hope your life hasn’t gone well since that happened. You’re a monster, and you deserve all the misery in the world.
