Is it normal for someone to remind you that you are paid?

Hi, so this is pretty stupid but I had to ask. I have been working at this new job for about three months now. It's a normal IT tech support position, and I love my coworkers and bosses. I'm grateful for this job because it paid way more than my last job, which was also in tech support. The reason I posted this question here is because specific coworker keeps reminding me that I'm getting paid whenever I do something that is apart of my job description. For instance, I had to do training and I had to review and reread my job description and other data and it took a couple hours. He asked how it went and I said it took a while, but it was fine. He said, "remember you're getting paid to do it" and yesterday I made a huge mistake, and when he was taking charge of fixing it, and I apologized he said the same thing. It was "remember you're getting paid".

I couldn't find anything online of people specific coworker keeps reminding me that I'm getting paid whenever I do something that is apart of my job description. Like, "hey, remember you're getting paid, so don't question anything and do your job." Does that sound right or does it just sound weird to me?
