Realistically, how badly will a "ban assault weapons" bill hurt?

It sounds like Biden has come out and said we will have an AWB bill being introduced this year, and while Manchin and others are already expressing doubts about being able to pass it, Biden has amped up the pressure, and so have the gun control lobby, so I have no doubt there will be a bill, and there will be a fight. Now, we have had a few AWB bills floated officially in the last year or so, and a bunch of fan made ones. While we don't know exactly what the bill will look like, if we're being completely honest with ourselves, how badly will it actually hurt? If you remove the hyperbole, the sky is falling, the world is ending, vibes, how bad would it be? What is the real impact, to the average gun owner? We all know the jqpublic is largely against such a bill, but at the end of the day, we know it's a democracy, and 51% wins and the other 49% can go hang. So what are your realistic thoughts on this? If the bill is written similarly to the ones that have already been proposed, how much will we really notice it?
