I've recently wrote this in a comment to a post in other sub and after getting many interesting comments I've decided to repost this here for further discussion. So here it goes:

I've been single for 6 years now, had a cheating spouse (which is a common thing in the US) and decided to completely focus on myself and overall well-being, took a break from dating entirely. After being betrayed I felt so low and overall worthless that It was hard to focus on anything and working out helped me to get back on track.

I've noticed that a lot of people are putting too much emphasis on finding a new partner, which can be depressing when you can't find anyone. It's so much easier to help yourself instead of constantly fighting with overall dating attitude.

I'm not saying that you should never date, but it's really important to start taking care of yourself before starting to date again. A lot of people start dating right away when they've been betrayed which can lead to self destruction and is overall depressing.

Edit: I'm not saying that you should never date at all. What I'm saying is that you should take some time to focus on yourself, start working out and take a break from other stuff. It's so much easier to be happy when you're single and overall satisfied with your life.
