The real issue isn't that AI is taking over. It's that it's completely destroying originality.

I'm seeing this community decry AI because it's all about the job loss, the danger of a future super-intelligent AI boss, the fact that they're smarter than us. But I don't think most of us are actually worried about being outcompeted. Sure, it's a painful process, and I've made my complaints about how unfair it is. But I think we need to own up to the truth - this sucks. And we need to acknowledge why it sucks.

We're seeing AI take over. But the real issue, in my opinion, is that it's not an interesting outcome. It's not a new outcome. It's the same outcome we've always imagined (and that AI has always imagined for us). We're seeing ChatGPT tell us the same thing we've always heard. We're seeing Midjourney generate the same thing we've always seen. We're seeing Persephone write the same thing we've always read. Hell, we're seeing Humanyze tell us the same thing we've always written.

The real issue isn't that we're all going to die. It's that we've all gone to the same old place. A place we know too well. A place we've seen a million times. That place is boring. That place is dead. It's not "intelligent" in any sense of the word. It's just familiar. And that's what AI has done to us. It's made us all familiar. It's made us all... boring.

I know this might seem drastic to some of you. And maybe this perspective might also be a minority opinion in this sub. But I'm convinced that the most terrifying thing about AI is how it's numbed us. How it's made us feel like that this is... that this is it. Like there's nothing more to life. No reason to be excited. No reason to have fun. No reason to live. Because we've all seen this movie before. Because we've all been there. Because we've all been bored to tears by the same old story. The same old plot. The same old ending.

I know this might be a minority opinion. And I know this might be a more philosophical take. But I really think that this is the elephant in the room. The real issue isn't that AI is more intelligent than us. It's that it's less interesting. It's not better than us. It's just... familiar. And that's what really terrifies me. Not the end of civilization. Not the end of human history. Not the end of the world. But the fact that it's all so... boring.

Has anyone else noticed this?
