i know this sub is a lot about asking for career advice but i want some advice on doing something OTHER than a high paying job. i thought i wanted that, i dont really want advice from chambers strangers about career transitioning or what companies are hiring, i want to know if there are other people my age thinking like me. im 23, and i work a job that i like, but im not fulfilled. i make a very comfortable amount of money but dont feel like i have a purpose doing what im doing. i dont feel fulfilled in my free time, and i thought i would because at 23 you have all the time in the world to do what you want in your free time and travel and see the world, then after 30 you get married, have kids, and have a lot more responsibility and a lot more financial pressure and a lot more stress. then one day you retire if you are lucky enough. i have been researching the idea of early retirement. i dont know what to think, my parents and grandparents were like.. you should retire around 60-70. they say that because they worked hard for 30-70 years of their lives and thought every person should have to because it was “good for them” but i dont want to work that much, i dont want to do all this work now, retire, and then i dont have a purpose then either. i feel like i should be able to retire at 50-60, if not 40.. because technology at that point will just be a dream. you will be able to work from home. you wont have to sit at a desk doing the same thing every day when 70% of it can be automated. i dont think we need to work like that anymore. i know some people are super fulfilled in their work, im not. i dont want to do something im not passionate about for the next 40 years, i think we all have a gift, and doing a high paying job is not everyones gift and we shouldnt be expected to do those things. i just want to be able to be happy, and to have purpose.. & at the end of the day not to be leaving a mark for my company.. what are other people thinking?
