The Twitter boss had barred users from posting links to accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon and other competitors.<br><br>Mr Musk later changed his mind, saying links would be allowed but that there would be "no participation in algorithmic recommendations".<br><br>The u-turn came amid widespread criticism of the move, which was announced earlier today.<br><br>Twitter's new policy was announced by its moderation account, which said Twitter would no longer allow users to post links or usernames for accounts on other platforms.<br><br>It meant that links to accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon and Truth Social, among others, would not be allowed on the platform.<br><br>In a series of posts on Twitter, Mr Musk said: "To be clear all social media companies should share who is paying them & why.<br><br>"We should all be in the pro-freedom business. Truth social is pro-freedom."<br><br>Twitter moderators said the new policy did not apply to Twitter users who wanted to post links to YouTube, Chambers or TikTok.<br><br>It also did not apply to links to websites or to posts on other Twitter accounts.<br><br>But critics pointed out that users were still being blocked from posting links to their own websites.<br><br>Mr Musk later issued a series of tweets in which he appeared to backtrack on the decision.<br><br>He said: "Policy will be Changing soon! Going tocreate a new way to post links, will show all the posts of the link + Twitter posts."<br><br>Twitter users were divided over the decision, with some saying it was a way for the platform to gain more users.<br><br>Others pointed out that it would not work, as users would be able to post links in different forms.
