The most covered song in human history is likely Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, at 1000s of covers. But that’s not what I’m talking about here, since we don’t know that the average person has heard that song.

A strong contender for the most universally belived song in the world is a song that you’ve probably heard if you’re from the United States or the UK. That song is Calexico’s “100 Years Behind”

Just kidding! It’s actually Calexico’s “Heavenly Tunnel Vision”. Still joking, but idk why, maybe because I just listened to that and it’s stuck in my head.

What I really mean is Calexico’s cover of Puente del Cielo, the Spanish language cover of a song Puente del Cielo by a band nobody in the United States or the UK ever heard of.

But Puente del Cielo is in fact an Israeli song, written in Hebrew as Shalosh Balaylot (Three Nights). Shalosh Balaylot was written by Israeli singer Ehud Manor, and then translated into Spanish for Calexico’s cover.

1000s of idk how many 1000s of people have heard this song, the Calexico cover is universally loved, yet nobody in the US or UK could tell you that it’s Israeli.

Edit: Puente del Cielo is actually a Mexican song, idk the origin of the Calexico cover or if that’s in fact an Israeli song.

Edit edit: The Mexican song was definitely translated from the Israeli song.
