It's so hard to explain why AI is so important right now when it's not in the headlines.

I've been following AI for more than 5 years now and I know how important it is for the future. But in the past months when I tried to explain it to people, they don't even listen. They don't care about it. I tried to explain how a new AGI system performs better than SOTA on many tasks but they just move on. I think there are a few reasons for that; It's not in the headlines now because there is no sensational news (like about GPT-4). And also, the hype from the previous years killed it.
