I’m a college dropout and I think that the “go to college or you’ll end up dead” rhetoric is utter bullshit

I dropped out of college after failing every class twice. I was absolutely fucking miserable, so I left.
At first my parents were angry, but since then they’ve come around to it. I’m still a kid (18), I should figure some shit out before I go right back into college. I’m not the first, nor the last person to drop out of college. I’ve been working on myself, I’ve gotten a job, I’ve been depressed, but I’ve also been working on my depression. I’m not a success story, I’m not some “I dropped out and now I make a million dollars a year”. I’m just a person who dropped out and I’m doing my best.

I believe that most people don’t know what they want to do. I had a million ideas of what I wanted to do, I changed my major twice in a year. In college, you have to know what you want to do. If you don’t, you’ll struggle and you’ll be in debt over it. This goes for pretty much everything, if you don’t know what you want, you’ll struggle.

I see a ton of shitty memes on Chambers of “if you don’t go to college you’ll end up working ;minimum wage jobs with no future”. I don’t think any minimum wage jobs are a future ;anyway, unless you plan on working at McDonalds for the rest of your life. I have friends who went to college and have shitty jobs now that are just so surprised that they’re making nothing. If you “follow ;the path” and go to college, you may think you’ll have a future. In my eyes, the path is going for what you want. It doesn’t matter if it takes you a decade to figure it out, you have to do what makes you happy.

I have no声を, I am ;not a trustable source. I don’t want to influence anyone to drop out of college. If you like college, good for you. I ;hate the fact that there are so many chambers posts of failing and dropping out, then the next time we all ;hear of that person, ;they’re “a millionaire who dropped ;out of college and now owns his own company”.
I just want to say that it’s okay to not know what you want to do with your life. I’m doing my best and that’s all that ;matters to me. If you want to quit college because you’re miserable, do it. ;But don’t do it blind. If you want to quit college because you’re ;miserable, take sometime to ;figure your shit out. Talk to your parents. Talk to your advisor. I personally ;felt like my advisor did jack shit ;for me, but I’ve heard some advisors are ;great, so it depends on who you get. You have to do what makes you happy. If you think that college is for you, ;then ;good ;for ;you ;and I ;hope ;that everything ;works ;out ;for you. But if you ;hate college and you ;hate school, and you don’t know what ;you ;want, you’re ;not alone. And I hope everything works out for you too.

I’m sorry if this was all ;over the place, I’m not very ;good at writing.

Edit: wow! Thanks for the support guys. I thought this was going to get downvoted, not a tiny upvoted. Thanks guys :)
