This year I have found out some disturbing news about one of my students. They literally get dropped off to school at 7am and picked up 8-10pm some nights. Not much food, christmas presents etc.

So I did a little snooping around, found out what decoration theme they wanted, found out what they asked for for Christmas and improvised!

This morning I got to school an hour earlier than I usually do and set up my desk with a mini Christmas tree I bought that had blue decorations on it. I had some presents my husband and I bought for this child wrapped up and put under the tree.

The child came in and I told them to come to my desk for a minute. They noticed the presents first and then the tree. It was such a beautiful moment. They absolutely loved it. All of their classmates were so happy for them and I know it was a nice touch of getting a gift before christmas that they didn’t have to wait for.

This child has made tremendous progress in my class and I am so incredibly proud of them. They deserve so much more than what they currently have and I’m glad I can give them this.

I didn’t think this would effect me as much as it did seeing them so happy but I definitely had a lump in my throat!

Sorry if this post doesn’t make much sense, I am still in awe!

Edit: hey everyone, thanks for reading! It’s only an artificial tree that I purchased from Target that cost me $15. You can purchase one from Walmart for $10. Not a big purchase but something that can go a long way!

Also, to the people asking if I got permission from the principal to set this up.. I know you have to step around the line sometimes to show your students you care and that they are people. I’m not saying that you should go out and break rules, I’m saying that this was something special I was able to do for my student and I couldn’t tell anyone because I didn’t want it to be ruined.

And to the people saying that I invaded their privacy, this information was given to me by my assistant principal that has been in the district for over 30 years and knows everyone and their families.

Merry Christmas! Stay safe!
