CMV: The surge in suicide is not an anomaly, it’s a result of a policy that wont be rescinded soon enough.

So now that it’s socially unacceptable to say that suicide is a choice (and rightfully so), let’s talk about why there is a surge in suicide rates. I think the suicide rate will surge until the lock down is lifted.
You can argue that the surge in suicide wont be as bad as surge in deaths from Covid, but the suicide deaths are avoidable. The deaths from Covid wont be because of suicide, but because that is the nature of the disease.
You can also argue that people wont just commit suicide because they are locked down. But then you need to explain why there is a surge in suicide rates during the lock down. If you say it is because of the economy, then explain why there was a surge in suicide rates in China, Japan, and South Korea, (countries with economies not as connected to China or the US).
The only way to stop the surge in suicide rates is to stop the lock down.
