I wouldn't usually, but a police officer - who I assume has access to government data on drug arrests, raids and other drug related crime, has today said that the police are cracking down on drug users and the number of people being arrested is rising.<br><br>--<br><br>The police now have swab tests that can be used on people to test them for illegal drugs, drivers in particular (to ensure you're safe and not putting others at risk). <br><br>The police want to Jail drug users...<br><br>> **Home Secretary Suella Braverman** told Sky News that she wanted to change the law to give police the power to arrest and jail anyone in possession of Class A drugs.<br><br>> "I would like to see the law changed so that anybody in possession of Class A drugs is committing a criminal offence for which they can be arrested and potentially imprisoned," she said.<br><br>It's in the news everywhere, Google it yourself.<br><br>> Mr Sunak said the number of people being arrested for possession of Class A drugs was expected to double by the end of March 2025.<br><br>> Home Secretary Suella Braverman wants to make it a crime to possess small amounts of any illegal drug, including Class B and C substances.<br><br>> But experts have warned such a move could breach human rights laws.<br><br>> Mr Sunak also said he wanted to "stiffen" the penalties for drug possession.<br><br>> An extra £66m will be spent on tackling drugs, with £32m set aside for new drug testing equipment.<br><br>> The prime minister said the new laws would target "middle-class" cocaine users and not those who take them for medical reasons.<br><br>> At present, possession of Class A drugs can result in a seven-year prison sentence.<br><br>> The plan is to introduce "three strikes" - where anyone caught possessing Class A drugs three times will face a criminal record and potentially be jailed.<br><br>> It will be rolled out in five pilot forces from April but could be expanded nationwide.<br><br>> The law change is due to take place in the autumn.
