The lack of focus, discipline and self-control nowadays blows my mind.

I'm 22. I spend most of my free time reading books from my college library, working out, helping with housework and doing my own small projects (woodworking, gardening, programming, etc).

I work as a freelance writer doing a few interviews a month. I also volunteer as a docent at a local art gallery. I've been living at home with my parents since freshman year of college. They've never made me pay rent, but they also didn't give me an allowance. They asked me to give them money every month, but didn't specify how much. After rent, utilities, groceries and a subscription, I spend the rest.

I spend most of my free time reading books from my college library, working out, helping with housework and doing my own small projects (woodworking, gardening, programming, etc). I also love spending time with my girlfriend. We have a very traditional relationship, no sex before marriage, etc. I've never been one to go out to bars, clubs, or parties. I prefer to stay at home and have a quiet night, maybe go for a hike somewhere.

So you could say I live quite a simple life, but I'm not one to complain. I'm content with my situation and I'm happy.

However, I've been reading more and more about younger generations (Gen Z) these days and how they seem to be completely lacking in focus, discipline and self-control.

It's not just the younger generation. I've recently found out that many adults these days also lack basic productivity skills, discipline and self-control.

They spend most of their time scrolling through social media all day, they watch hours and hours and hours of mindless entertainment in the form of TV shows, movies (mostly Marvel), video games and YouTube videos, and they even go to therapy to discover the reason why they can't focus.

I've also seen so many people bragging about being a "homebody" all day, never leaving their houses, getting really bad at solving everyday problems because they rely on Google to help them and give them all the answers.

I've also seen a lot of people bragging about how lazy they've become, how they've changed their lives for the worse, how they go out less and spend more time indoors.

I don't want to sound like a boomer, but all this seems to be very strange to me, at least in my small bubble.

What do you think? Is this an exaggeration?
