Lamen help needed... I have an old apple device that I've not used in years and has been forgotten and locked.

I'm trying to factory reset an old apple device without knowing the passcode. The device is too old to get help from apple, I know the device's apple ID and password so I would have thought I would be able to reset the apple ID from apple's website then factory reset the device. Only apple help I can find says that I should erase the device from the apple website which is not an option on the website I can only see options to change the apple ID and change the device's password. Does apple not have options to reset the device from their website? I was expecting there to be a drop down option that says... "I've forgotten my passcode and can't login to my apple device, I'd like to factory reset it." I would have thought that would be an option.
