Rude boy

I have a 7th grade boy who is just so rude. When I say "stop talking" he says "no". When I ask him to put his phone away he says "no, why are you so strict?!!".<br><br>I've never been called a bitch or something before but today boy said "Wow, you can be SUCH a bitch!" When he said that, the class gasped. I was absolutely floored. <br><br>I took the boy outside after the class and told him I had never been spoken to like that before. The boy just shrugged and said "I say it to my mom all the time". That did it for me. I sent him to the principal, wrote up a referral and told him he's serving a detention tomorrow.<br><br>I'm just so irritated. I've never had a truly difficult student before and I don't know how to deal. I've been very calm and kind and non-confrontational, and today I just had enough of it. <br><br>What do you do when you have a student who is just so rude? Do they just do it because they can?
