CMV: I think the US should be required to do a thorough background check before a US citizen can travel to a non-US country.

I have been a flight attendant for over 20 years. I am a US citizen. I recently had a flight where someone in first class had a seizure and died. The staff and crew were able to determine that the man was a recently convicted and released pedophile. The government did not think he was a threat to society but I think they should have let countries he traveled to know about his criminal background. Why did the Feds think he wasn't a threat to society? I have recently seen a news article where the US is telling countries about US citizens who have been convicted of crimes. I think this should be a requirement and countries should be able to deny travel to these people.

**Update** - I still have my job. I am a flight attendant for a major airline but I am based in a city that is right next to a smaller airport that has a lot of flight training. I do a lot of training flights and recently a training flight went very wrong and crashed into the water. I am very lucky to be alive as the pilots did not survive. I do not think I am ready to fly again but as soon as I am I will continue to fight for the laws I mentioned.

Edit - I should add that if a criminal is a threat to society, the Feds should be able to deny travel for someone in jail on bail.
