Hi, I'm 18 and in the second year of my bachelor's in finance. This semester we had 5 exams and 2 assignments that needed to be handed in. I'm a student that doesn't need to work and has enough money to live comfortably, so studying full time. I study in a small group with 5 others. 4 of them work 20-40 hours a week and 1 studies full time like me. We had 6 contact hours a week. Meaning we had to be there in person for 6 hours a week for these exams. Of course, we didn't spend those 6 hours a week studying in the class.

I read a lot on this sub and I've been using a lot of the tips and tricks I found here. One of the tips I found extremely helpful was the Pomodoro timer. So after 25 minutes of studying you take a 5 minute break. Now I know studying with the Pomodoro timer isn't new, I used to use it a lot in high school. This time around I changed it a bit. Studying 25 minutes and then taking a break didn't really work for me. One of the things that really distracted me was checking my phone. I would check it every 5 minutes because I was scared to miss something. Then I read on this sub that you could install an app that blocked social media or that kind of stuff. Studying was so much easier. I didn't have to think about my phone and I didn't have to fight the urge to check my phone.

The second thing that really distracted me was getting up to get something to drink or eat. Again I had to fight the urge to check my phone. So now I've gotten into the habit of taking a 10 minute break every hour and getting something to drink. Now I don't have to fight the urge to check my phone while getting a drink. And studying went even better. This 10 minute rule that I use is also helping me to set small goals. So it's not I'm going to study 8 hours today, but I can study for an hour. Next hour I'll see. This helps me a lot to focus. I can also reward myself after 8 hours of studying with watching a movie or doing something else I like.

So what I do is the following:

- 50 minutes of studying with the Pomodoro timer

- 10 minutes break, this break I use to get something to drink or eat. Sometimes I check my phone here for a minute.

- After 5 cycles of 50 minutes of studying and 10 minutes break, I take an hour break. In this hour I can do whatever I want, but I have to take a walk outside. Sometimes I go for a swim or to the gym. Before the gym I've already studied for 4 hours so that's not too bad. If I go to the gym I usually take a 2 hour break. But then I can reward myself with 2 hours of doing something I like.

My exam results are as follows:

- Macroeconomics 96%

- Micro-economics 94%

- statistics 96%

- Data analysis 94%

- Corporate finance 96%

Of course, this is not only because of this 10-minute rule. But it has contributed to better focus and less procrastination.

I hope this will help someone.
