This happened to me in early 2017 in Houston, TX. I was 24 at the time and in medical school. The incident occurred in a hospital parking garage that was attached to the medical school. There were always people walking around, even at night.

It happened when I was walking out of the hospital around 10 pm after a long day of classes. The parking garage had multiple levels and there was only one elevator. I parked on the top floor of the parking garage, so when you walked out of the elevator there was a short hallway that led to two sets of doors. The doors on the left led to the stairs and the doors on the right led outside to the parking lot. The doors on the right opened to a short tunnel that went under the parking garage and led out to the parking lot.

This night, I had just walked out of the elevator and turned right towards the doors that led outside. As I reached for the door, I heard the elevator doors behind me open. I turned around to see what it was and that’s when I saw them. There were two guys in their mid-twenties and both of them were holding guns. One had a shotgun and the other had a pistol. I froze and my heart started racing as they started walking towards me.

I turned around and ran through the doors on my right as fast as possible, not even breaking stride as I ran through the tunnel that led out to the parking lot. I didn’t stop running until I was in my car with the doors locked and driving away. I called 911 as I drove out of the garage and they said they would send someone over. When I drove back to the parking garage, I saw two cops but no one else. They took my statement and that was it.

This happened 8 years ago and I still have no idea what they would have done to me if they had caught me. I can’t even begin to imagine and the thought of it still gives me nightmares. These two guys could have easily caught up to me but they didn’t. They remained in the hallway when I ran through the doors. They didn’t even follow me out into the parking lot. I think they wanted someone specific and I just happened to come out of the elevator at the wrong time. I feel blessed to be alive and lucky that this is only a close call.

Never in my life had I been in a situation like this before. I was in shock for days after it happened. This incident definitely changed me. I’m a lot more paranoid now when I’m walking alone anywhere at night.

Edit: I just wanted to clarify that I didn’t hear them when the elevator doors first opened. I only noticed them when I turned around and saw them walking towards me.

Edit 2: I just wanted to clarify that I didn’t see them pull out their guns when the elevator doors opened. They already had them out when I turned around.

Edit 3: If you’re going to message me on this post, I prefer not to message back unless you send me a normal message. I don’t respond to chat messages.
