Amazon is not letting its employees work from home full-time from next year as the tech giant attempts to bring workers back into the office. The plans will affect 27,000 employees across six cities in the US. <br><br><br>The e-commerce tech giant will be making big changes to the working conditions of 27,000 full-time employees across six cities in the US from next year. The company has told employees by email that it will bring an end to full-time remote working. <br><br><br>As of July next year, six cities in the US will have to work remotely no more than 50% of the time, the company confirmed. <br><br><br>In an email seen by the BBC, the firm told employees in six cities that the work-from-home policy will be changing again after the company has allowed employees to work from home in recent years. <br><br><br>Amazon employees in the US in cities including Boston, New York City, San Diego and San Jose have been working remotely more than 50% of the time. <br><br><br>But under the new rules, employees will no longer be able to work from home full-time as they will now be classed as "reduced in office" from July next year. <br><br><br>The memo sent to employees by the company read: "We are in a world where we subscribe to the mantra of letting teams decide how often and how much they want to be in the office. We are going to have to be more thoughtful." <br><br><br>As well as the US cities affected, 3,000 employees at the company’s headquarters in Seattle will also face changes to their working conditions. <br><br><br>The email from Beth Galetti, Amazon's senior vice president of human resources said: "We are in a world where we subscribe to the mantra of letting teams decide how often and how much they want to be in the office. We are going to have to be more thoughtful." <br><br><br>The change in rules will give employees the option to work from home part time, but it will remain at the discretion of their managers. <br><br><br>Ms Galetti confirmed that while some workers will have to work in the office, not everyone will be classed as "reduced in office". <br><br><br>The vice president for human resources at Amazon wrote: “Not everyone will be reduced in office. There will be teams and roles that have to work full-time in office, and there will be teams and roles that will not have to go in office at all." <br><br><br>The tech company has allowed employees to work from home in recent years, but the firm has been trying to bring workers back into the office. <br><br><br>Ms Galetti concluded: “We can’t micro manage and make hard and fast rules for every team and every career level." <br><br><br>Amazon is just one tech firm to have made big changes to its work from home policies, after Twitter banned employees working from home full-time in 2022. <br><br><br>We are an independent newspaper and we have been in business for 100 years.
