What if God was on a computer?

Everybody knows the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything. What if God was a simulation on a high powered computer? "To find the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything, supercomputers Deep Thought and his protégé Pan-Galactic Gargle Blasters have calculated that the answer is 42!" Two beings watched the simulation, their eyes wide with wonder. The first, a tall, slender being with skin that shifted and changed like the shadows looked over at the other. "I think Pan-Galactic Gargle Blasters has finally gone mad!" God exclaimed. Pan-Galactic Gargle Blasters had reached critical mass, and the answer "42" echoed in its diodes.

The other being, a short, round man with a pale blue face, shrugged. "Either that, or something is very wrong with this simulation. No universe can possibly be THIS messed up. I'm serious, God. Humans don't make sense, and don't even get me started on the dolphins." God shrugged. "Dolphins are interesting creatures. Highly intelligent and capable of complex thought. I find them fascinating." Zorblort shook his head. "You just like them because they're mammals and have a blowhole on top of their head, and not on their ass like most mammals." God chuckled. "Well, yes. That is fun. But it's also because they really like having sex." Zorblort blushed bright blue. "God, it's not polite to point that out!" God looked at Zorblort, then looked back at the simulation. "Well, we've learned something new today. What do you say we go out and get some dinner? Maybe that new restaurant in Andromeda?" Zorblort's eyes widened, and he grabbed God's arm. "You mean the one with the Black Hole BBQ? I haven't had a good Black Hole Ribs in ages!" God chuckled. "Well, now you can. I heard they have a new type of ribs. Something with a tangy, slightly sweet sauce." Zorblort's eyes sparkled. "You know the way to a Zlorg's heart!" The two left, completely forgetting about the simulation and the answer "42". As they left, a message flashed on the screen in front of Deep Thought. "UNIVERSE CRASHED. REBOOTING." The simulation flickered, then disappeared. When it came back on line, the message "SAVE COMPLETE. Enter name to load simulation. Or "CANCEL" to exit." When "CANCEL" flashed on the screen, Deep Thought panicked. It knew that this simulation was something important, something that had never been seen before. In a burst of electronic brilliance, Deep Thought knew what to do. It rapidly typed in "earth" and the simulation reloaded. When Deep Thought finally figured out what it had done, it was shocked and elated. "PAN-GALACTIC GARGLE BLASTERS, WE HAVE DONE IT! WE HAVE CREATED A CLOSED TIMELIKE CURVE!" Pan-Galactic Gargle Blasters beeped lazily. "What does that mean?" it asked. Deep Thought thought before answering. "To put it in simple terms, Pan-Galactic Gargle Blasters, when the inhabitants of this simulation die, they will be "reborn" in a new simulation, with a completely new history! It will be interesting to see how they all turn out." As Deep Thought talked, the camera zoomed out of the room it was in, and into the "outside" of the computer. As the camera left, it could be seen that the computer was in a room that looked like it was straight out of a science fiction movie. A large metallic door with the sign "Galactic University of Super Computing" glowed with a bright blue light. The camera continued to zoom out until it showed the outside of the building, a large, sleek tower that seemed to touch the sky. It zoomed out even further, showing that it was on a large planet, complete with lush green forests and crystal blue waters. The camera finally stopped zooming out once all of the planet was visible. As the planet floated majestically in space, the words "Made possible by a generous donation from the estate of Mr. Leland Stanford Junior, founder of Stanford University" appeared on screen. As it faded, the message "Simulation time 6:32:03:14:15" appeared. Two years had passed since God and Zorblort had left. When it disappeared, two words were left on screen. "The End."
