Why does it make sense that Americans do not need to learn other languages because "you can travel anywhere in the world and most people are going to know English"?

Like, people from those countries have to learn English, but English speakers from America do not need to learn other languages because everyone knows English? Why does that make sense?<br><br>Edit: I am American and I am appalled by how ignorant and arrogant we are as a nation. I have tried to argue this with other Americans but they refuse to listen. I am getting my degree in International Relations so I know how horribly we think of the rest of the world.
