I'm a PhD student in one of the most fascinating fields of science, that will have a truly groundbreaking impact on society and improve billions of lives. I love my work and enjoy going to the lab everyday, but for the last few years, I've started to resent the fact that I have to constantly go to the lab to do my job. I spend most of my time doing repetitive experiments that can be automated.

I feel like I'm truly wasting my potential, humanity needs to research a cure for diseases rather than me doing things that can easily be done by a robot. If I didn't have to do experiments, I would have so much time to truly focus on the research and more time to learn about other areas of science. I feel like humanity has a huge potential to take a huge leap in technology and science if our time wasn't wasted on truly repetitive and boring tasks.

I don't know how automation is truly viewed in the rest of society, but from what I've seen, people who are against automation and AI seem to be worried about their job being replaced. This is a very short-sighted view of things, imagine if doctors didn't have to spend so much time looking into your scans and analyzing your blood work; they would have more time to actually take care of you and help more people.

I know that despite the hype that has been growing around AI, it's still nowhere near being able to replace humans, but we're seeing huge advancements happening everyday. Not to mention all of the human mistakes that could be prevented if we let AI do things. On the other hand, I truly worry about the bias and ethics of AI and all of the potential of these systems being used for ill intentions.

What do you think about the future of automation? Can we get to a point where we can live in a sustainable society with minimal work hours and no need to worry about money?
