I had no idea the impact decluttering and minimalism had on my mental health until I sat on my couch and felt like I was in a hotel, nothing out of place and nothing reminding me of trauma.

I’m sitting in my tranquil living room, surrounded by only essential items, and I’m so proud of myself and I feel like I’m in a hotel because everything is so neat and tidy. I’ve never felt such a sense of peace and comfort.

I used to be a compulsive buyer, spending money on anything and everything that caught my eye. I justified the purchases as necessary because I was afraid of running out, as if stockpiling household items would protect me from the uncertainty of life.

But the clutter and disorganization were suffocating me, making me anxious and stressed. The constant visual reminders of my past traumas, updated chore lists, messy cupboards, and disorganized closet, as well as my husband’s messy desk, were all contributing factors to my mental health struggles, including anxiety, depression, and even migraines.

So I started decluttering. I began with small, manageable tasks, like tidying up one area at a time, and then moved on to larger projects, like reorganizing my closet and kitchen cabinets. I took breaks when I felt overwhelmed, but the sense of accomplishment when I finished each task kept me going.

As I continued to declutter, I started to see the impact it had on my mental health. I felt more focused, more energized, and more confident. I could think more clearly, and I had a greater sense of control over my life. I no longer felt like I was drowning in a sea of clutter, and I could finally see a way out.

Decluttering wasn’t just about getting rid of stuff; it was about creating a sense of order and stability in my life. It was about creating a space that was peaceful, calming, and uplifting. It was about taking care of myself and my well-being.

So if you’re feeling overwhelmed by clutter and disorganization, I encourage you to start small. Tidy up one area at a time, and then move on to larger projects. Take breaks when you feel overwhelmed, and don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it.

I know it won’t be easy, but I promise you, it will be worth it. Decluttering and minimalism are powerful tools for improving your mental health, and they can have a profound impact on your overall well-being.

So take the first step, and start decluttering your way to a more peaceful, more organized, and more fulfilling life.

Edit: I don’t know why this post blew up, I guess I just needed to vent. Thank you so much for the kind words everyone, I hope you all have a wonderful day.

Edit 2: I think I need to clarify that I had a lot of unnecessary items in my possession, so I didn’t just throw away everything. My house was so cluttered, I couldn’t even walk through it without tripping over something.

Edit 3: I appreciate the awards but I would rather you spend your money on something you need.
